Surfing NSW is a not for profit organisation which facilitates professional surf events and accredits learn to surf schools. It entered into a partnership with Tourism NSW to promote surf culture to holiday makers. Komosion, as Surfing NSW's digital agency, conceived surfthecoast.com.au - a site which would promote Australia's beach culture to visitors and provide an umbrella marketing vehicle for learn-to-surf schools as well as for coastal destinations and brands which associate or wish to associate with beach culture. Komosion also oversaw research with surf school participants at the start of the project which revealed, counter intuitively, that many people who take surf lessons have no interest in learning to surf. It's like parachuting, a 'bucket list' to do item. This reinforced the position of the site as one which need to promote an opportunity to connect with Australia's beach lifestyle rather than simply promoting learn-to-surf as a holiday opportunity.
